The Rhee family is headed by Moon-jhong and Hwa-ja. Natives of Korea, they moved to the U.S. in the late '60s. Moon-jhong is a professor of electrical and computer engineering at the University of Maryland in College Park, MD. Hwa-ja enjoyed a long career as a computer programmer/analyst at Raytheon, worked at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD, but is now happily retired. They live in Silver Spring, MD, in the same house where they raised four children. Both are avid golfers, even though Hwa-ja swore she would never become a golf-addict like Moon-jhong.
Jinny is the oldest daughter. She earned a PhD in mechanical engineering from Stanford University, and now teaches engineering at San Jose State University. Jinny lives in Palo Alto, CA, with her husband, Chris Lillios, who became an "honora-Rhee" in 1996. Chris runs a software consulting business, and enjoys windsurfing and playing the trumpet in a professional brass band. They have a young son, Niko, who is quite the toy train enthusiast, you should see his collection! They are expecting a new arrival in May 2003. All signs point towards a baby girl, however Niko is still holding out hope for a brother.
Ranne is the second daughter. A graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, she currently works for an architecture firm in New York. In her (limited!) spare time, she likes to travel, and to prepare meals from the most complicated recipes that she can find. Ranne's longest held ambition: to buy her first horse before her first car.
Mea is the third daughter. She is the owner of Mea Rhee Graphic Arts, which is both a graphic design firm and a pottery studio. Her design clients are mostly DC-area nonprofit organizations, and she exhibits her pottery at 3-6 shows per year. She runs both of these operations from her home in Silver Spring, MD, and when she remembers to go outside, she enjoys gardening, hiking, camping, road trips, and Orioles games.
Won is the youngest Rhee and only son, and therefore gets showered with affection from his three older sisters. Another Stanford grad, he lives in Palo Alto, CA, and works as an electrical engineer designing microchips for Agilent Technologies. You should look for his work in several HP printers in a store near you. In his spare time, Won enjoys eating well with his girlfriend Sue, playing classical guitar, disc golfing in the Santa Cruz hills, fiddling with his various computers, and watching TV and movies on his video projector.
